Cooking Gas Prices Ease as Supply Improves in Nigeria

Relief may finally be on the way for millions of Nigerian households as the price of cooking gas, also known as Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), has begun to decline following improved supply across the country.

Industry stakeholders attribute the reduction in prices to increased domestic production, improved import volumes and better product availability at major depots. The development has helped stabilise the market after months of fluctuating prices that placed additional financial pressure on consumers.

Across several cities, many gas retailers have started adjusting their prices downward as supply continues to improve. Consumers who previously struggled with the high cost of refilling their gas cylinders are expected to benefit if the current trend is sustained.

Operators in the LPG sector say recent efforts by producers and distributors to ensure a steady supply have contributed significantly to the price drop. They also noted that improved logistics and a more stable exchange rate have supported the gradual reduction in costs.

Despite the positive development, industry experts have urged the government to maintain policies that encourage local production and investment in gas infrastructure. They argue that expanding storage facilities, transportation networks and distribution channels will help prevent future shortages and ensure affordable prices for households nationwide.

The reduction in cooking gas prices is expected to encourage more Nigerians to embrace clean energy for cooking, reducing dependence on firewood and charcoal. This shift could have positive effects on public health and environmental conservation.

While consumers have welcomed the decline, they remain hopeful that prices will continue to fall in the coming months. Stakeholders believe that with consistent supply, favourable government policies and increased investment in the gas sector, cooking gas will become more affordable and accessible, providing lasting relief to families and businesses across Nigeria.
