ADC uploads Atiku, Amaechi’s names on INEC portal

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially uploaded the names and personal particulars of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal, marking another significant milestone in preparations for Nigeria’s 2027 general election.

The development was announced by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who described the submission as a crucial step in fulfilling INEC’s requirements for the presidential election. According to the party, the successful upload demonstrates its readiness to participate in the 2027 polls and reinforces its commitment to presenting what it calls a credible alternative for Nigerians.

Atiku, a former Vice President of Nigeria, emerged as the ADC’s presidential candidate after winning the party’s primary election earlier this year. He later selected former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as his running mate, forming one of the country’s most experienced political tickets ahead of the election.

Uploading candidates’ particulars to the INEC portal is one of the statutory requirements political parties must meet before the commission can process and publish the final list of candidates. The submission comes as political parties intensify preparations ahead of the commission’s deadline for candidate nominations.

The move is expected to further shape the political landscape as the race for the 2027 presidency gathers momentum. While supporters of the ADC have welcomed the development, political observers say the coming months will witness increased campaigns, alliances, and policy debates among the major contenders seeking to lead Africa’s most populous nation.
With the nomination process progressing, attention now shifts to INEC’s verification procedures and the next phases of the electoral timetable as Nigerians prepare for another highly anticipated presidential election.
