Nigerian Army Says Over 300 Bandits Killed in Major Zamfara Offensive

The Nigerian military has recorded what security officials describe as one of its most significant victories against armed bandits in recent months, following a massive offensive that reportedly left more than 300 suspected criminals dead in Zamfara State.

The operation, which lasted for two days, was carried out in Gummi Local Government Area by troops of the Nigerian Army with support from local security volunteers and other intelligence assets. According to state authorities, security forces engaged a large group of heavily armed bandits in a fierce gun battle after receiving intelligence on their movement and activities within the area.

Officials disclosed that the operation targeted criminal groups responsible for a series of attacks, kidnappings, cattle rustling, and violent assaults on rural communities across Zamfara and neighbouring states. During the encounter, troops reportedly overpowered the armed gangs, forcing many of them to flee while hundreds were said to have been neutralised.

Authorities described the offensive as a major breakthrough in the ongoing campaign to restore peace and security across Nigeria’s troubled North-West. The region has battled years of violent attacks by armed gangs, with thousands of residents displaced from their homes and countless families affected by kidnappings and other criminal activities.

Farming activities in many parts of Zamfara have been severely disrupted by insecurity, contributing to food shortages and economic hardship in the region.

They argue that dismantling the operational networks, supply routes, and financial sources of armed groups is essential to preventing future attacks.

The Federal Government has repeatedly pledged to eliminate banditry and other forms of violent crime through coordinated military operations and enhanced security strategies. Recent offensives across several northern states have resulted in the destruction of terrorist camps, the recovery of weapons, and the rescue of kidnapped victims.

As military operations continue across the North-West, many Nigerians are hopeful that the latest offensive marks a turning point in the fight against banditry.
